City weighs balancing youth rider safety with pedestrian protection
Buena Park officials are reconsidering portions of the city’s e-bike rules and could allow younger riders to use sidewalks under a proposed 10 mph speed limit.
City staff has recommended that riders under 18 be allowed on sidewalks at the limited speed while yielding to pedestrians. Officials have been comparing Buena Park’s approach with rules in neighboring Fullerton, Anaheim, Cypress and La Palma.
The discussion comes as cities across Orange County continue working through how to regulate increasingly popular e-bikes while addressing crashes, injuries and pedestrian safety.
