Orange County crews prepare for potential El Niño flooding and storm impacts
The Orange County Fire Authority is expected to accept more than $1.8 million in federal funding to support California Task Force 5, the county-based FEMA urban search-and-rescue team.
The 70-person task force draws personnel from OCFA and the Anaheim and Orange fire departments and can deploy to collapsed structures, floods and other major disasters.
The funding arrives as local agencies prepare for potentially significant El Niño impacts. Coastal communities have already been planning for high surf, flooding and other storm-related emergencies.
