Bowerman Landfill remains open, but several services are temporarily unavailable.
Irvine’s October 17 compost-distribution event has been canceled following disruptions tied to Tuesday’s Orange County employee strike.
The city says Frank R. Bowerman Landfill remains open and accepts waste, although delays may occur. Public compost pickup and asphalt and soil delivery services are unavailable until further notice.
Teamsters Local 952 members walked out amid a contract dispute involving county workers. The union alleges unfair bargaining practices; county officials say contingency plans protect essential services.
Irvine’s notice said Tuesday’s strike was expected to conclude at 7 p.m. That expected end time does not establish that suspended landfill services have resumed.
Residents should check the city’s notice before making a compost-related trip. Questions about compost appointments can be directed to Orange County Waste & Recycling at 714-834-2158.
The notice concerns landfill operations and specific services. It does not announce a countywide cancellation of residential curbside trash collection.
