President Says Agreement with Israeli and Lebanese Leaders Follow Meetings in Washington, D.C., Involving Senior U.S. Officials
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump announced Monday that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire following high-level diplomatic discussions involving regional leaders and senior U.S. officials.
President Trump said he held conversations with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing the talks as “excellent conversations” with both leaders.
According to the White House, the agreement marks an initial step toward de-escalation, with both sides committing to pause hostilities. He said the ceasefire is intended “in order to achieve PEACE between their Countries,” and will formally begin Tuesday at 5 p.m. EST.
The announcement follows meetings in Washington, D.C., where Israeli and Lebanese representatives reportedly met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in what President Trump described as a rare diplomatic engagement between the two nations.
“I have directed Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Rubio” to help facilitate ongoing negotiations, with the broader goal “to achieve a Lasting PEACE!” the President posted to TRUTH Social.
He also referenced continued coordination with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff as part of the U.S.-backed effort to stabilize the region.
The ceasefire marks a notable but potentially fragile pause in hostilities, as regional tensions have remained high amid ongoing conflict along Israel’s northern frontier with Lebanon.
