Tim Allen’s engagement with Scripture is something he is sharing publicly for the first time. In February, he posted, “After nearly a year I have finished entire Old Testament and the experience of re reading, dedicated focus and no drifting has made this a humbling overwhelming experience. What a treasure. Three days into New Testament.”
Just a couple of days ago, Allen shared another update, writing, “Finished the Old Testament and it is such a gift when I get out of the way and the words and meaning flow. This week I am now in the book of the Gospel of Paul. A Roman Jew familiar with Plato, Stoicism, and other Greek schools of thought. I am amazed in seven pages!”
Faith Through Life’s Moments
Allen’s faith extends beyond private study to public expressions of gratitude and devotion when this Easter he shared he was taking his mother to church. “Blessed Easter to all! I am so grateful to be able to fly into Detroit to take my 96 year old Mom who did everything for me and my 8 siblings to church.”
Allen has also quoted the great writer, Henri Nouwen: “God is a God of the present. God is always in the moment, be that moment hard or easy, joyful and painful.” This reflection captures Allen’s belief in a God who is present in every facet of life, from the joy of celebrating Easter with his mother to the challenges he has faced over the years.
The loss of his father at age 11 sent him into a tailspin, leading to struggles with addiction and a two-year prison sentence for drug trafficking in the 1970s. Raised in an Episcopalian household, Allen has spoken about grappling with big questions about God during these dark times. Yet, he credits his faith with helping him rebuild his life, offering a sense of purpose that guided him to sobriety and a successful career.

Allen’s growing faith impacts his work in Hollywood. In his role as executive producer and star of The Santa Clauses on Disney+, he insisted on incorporating faith-based elements to reflect the religious origins of Christmas. “It literally is a religious holiday,” he told The Wrap in 2022, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging the spiritual roots of the story. This decision was not without pushback, as Allen noted Disney’s initial reluctance to include overt references to faith. His persistence highlights his willingness to stand firm in his convictions, even in an industry that can be skeptical of such expressions.
