The British singer and her sisters draw from Psalms 30 and 91 in an uplifting release centered on hope.

British singer-songwriter RAYE is bringing biblical language into mainstream pop with the video for “Joy,” a collaboration featuring her sisters Amma and Absolutely.

Filmed around London, the video follows the sisters as they distribute sunflowers and share moments of celebration with people they meet. The song draws directly from themes in Psalms 30 and 91, connecting joy after sorrow with the image of refuge under God’s care.

Biblical imagery in a mainstream release

“Joy” is not marketed as a conventional worship single, and it should not be reviewed as though it were one. Its significance lies in the way familiar scriptural ideas appear in a contemporary pop setting, reaching listeners who may rarely encounter the Psalms elsewhere.

RAYE and her sisters have spoken publicly about a Christian influence in their upbringing. The family collaboration gives the release an added dimension: its message of hope is embodied through shared creativity and simple acts of generosity rather than presented only as a private emotion.

Why This Matters

Popular music helps shape the language people use for sorrow, longing and hope. When an artist of RAYE’s reach draws thoughtfully from Scripture, it can reopen cultural space for biblical images without turning art into a sermon or reducing faith to a marketing label.

THRIVE! Perspective

Psalm 30 holds mourning and joy together, while Psalm 91 portrays God as refuge. Those themes endure because they do not deny suffering; they point us to the one who offers eternal hope and salvation – Jesus Christ.
