The first Disney-produced North American tour of the musical in more than 25 years runs September 22 through October 11 in Costa Mesa.
A tale familiar to generations of families is returning to the stage as Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” opens at Segerstrom Center for the Arts.
The Broadway musical begins its Orange County engagement September 22 and continues through October 11 at Segerstrom Hall in Costa Mesa.
It is Disney’s first North American touring production of the show in more than 25 years, reuniting members of the original Broadway creative team while introducing new staging, costumes and theatrical technology.
A story shared across generations
The production follows Belle, a young woman who feels out of place in her provincial town, and the Beast, a prince trapped under a curse that can be broken only through genuine love and transformation.
The stage musical expands the story through elaborate production numbers and songs by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. Familiar numbers include “Belle,” “Be Our Guest” and the title song, “Beauty and the Beast.”
For parents who first encountered the story through Disney’s animated film or the original Broadway production, the tour offers an opportunity to introduce the musical to another generation.
Plan before bringing younger children
The Segerstrom production uses haze, smoke, fog, periodic strobe lighting, loud sounds and streamer cannons over the audience at the conclusion of “Be Our Guest.”
Families with children who are sensitive to loud effects, flashing lights or atmospheric effects should consider those advisories before selecting a performance.
The center also lists audio-described, sign-interpreted and open-captioned performances during the engagement. Patrons should consult the individual performance schedule for availability.
Tickets and performance details
Performances take place at Segerstrom Hall, 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa. Dates, times, ticket availability and accessibility information are available through the official Segerstrom Center event page.
With its familiar story, live orchestra and large-scale theatrical design, the production gives Orange County families a major Broadway experience close to home.
