Mercy Hill Church says approximately 6,000 people attended the combined-campus worship service in Greensboro.
Mercy Hill Church baptized 141 people during a large outdoor worship gathering at First National Bank Field in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The September 13 “Church at the Ballpark” event brought Mercy Hill’s five campuses together for one service marking the congregation’s 14th anniversary. The church reported that approximately 6,000 people attended.
The gathering included live worship music, a message from Lead Pastor Andrew Hopper and activities for families. Baptisms were conducted during the service inside the stadium, which is normally home to the Greensboro Grasshoppers minor-league baseball team.
“Church at the Ballpark is in the books, but the fruit is going to go on into eternity,” Hopper said in a video shared by the church. “What an absolutely amazing day.”
Mercy Hill began in 2012 with approximately 30 people meeting in Hopper’s backyard. It has since expanded to five campuses across North Carolina’s Triad region.
The church describes baptism as a public declaration that a person has placed his or her faith in Jesus Christ. The attendance and baptism figures were supplied by Mercy Hill and reported by the Biblical Recorder.
