Light of the World Animated Film Premieres Nationwide, Retelling the Life of Jesus Through the Eyes of the Apostle John
This weekend, a new animated feature is set to shine on the big screen as Light of the World premieres in theaters nationwide. Produced by The Salvation Poem Project, the film retells the life of Jesus through the eyes of His youngest disciple, the Apostle John.
With a $20 million production budget and a creative team behind beloved classics like The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Mulan, the film blends modern 2D animation techniques with a deeply biblical narrative.
“This film’s story is intensely personal to us because it shows how Jesus can change the lives of broken people like you and me,” said producer Brennan McPherson, President of The Salvation Poem Project.
Directed by John J. Schafer (Superbook) and Tom Bancroft (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King), alongside animation director Tony Bancroft (Mulan, Space Jam: A New Legacy), the project has already generated anticipation as one of the most ambitious animated depictions of Jesus to date.
A Fresh Perspective on the Gospel Story
Set in 30 AD, the film begins with the anticipation of Israel awaiting the Messiah. John, James, Peter, Andrew, and others encounter Jesus and embark on an unexpected journey. Through the eyes of John, audiences witness Jesus’ ministry, miracles, crucifixion, and resurrection—culminating in the hope of His triumph over death.
“We have long dreamed of telling the story of Jesus in a groundbreaking manner, and we believe this film does that,” said executive producer Matt McPherson, founder of The Salvation Poem Project.
