A Clear, Scripture-Based Guide To Sharing The Gospel
For decades, The Four Spiritual Laws—developed by Campus Crusade for Christ (now CRU)—have been one of the most widely used tools for explaining the Gospel in a clear, concise, and compelling way. The concept is simple: just as there are physical laws that govern the universe, there are spiritual laws that govern our relationship with God. These four truths walk someone step-by-step from understanding God’s love to personally responding in faith to Jesus Christ.
If you’ve ever wished you could explain salvation without getting lost in theological debate, these four steps offer a simple roadmap.
Law 1 — God Loves You and Has a Wonderful Plan for Your Life
📖 Key Verse: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” — John 3:16
💬 Why It’s Essential: This is where the conversation begins—with God’s love. People often think Christianity is about rules and restrictions, but the first spiritual law sets the record straight: God’s motivation is love, and His plan is good. Without this truth, the Gospel can feel like bad news rather than the greatest news ever told.
Law 2 — Man Is Sinful and Separated from God
📖 Key Verse: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23
Additional: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” — Romans 6:23
💬 Why It’s Essential: If Law 1 is the revelation of God’s love, Law 2 is the diagnosis of our problem. Without grasping the reality of sin, people can’t see their need for a Savior. This truth prevents us from skipping straight to “Jesus loves you” without explaining why we desperately need His salvation.
Law 3 — Jesus Christ Is God’s Only Provision for Man’s Sin
📖 Key Verse: “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8
Additional: “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'” — John 14:6
💬 Why It’s Essential: Our culture seems to want to believe there are “many paths to God,” but Jesus made an exclusive claim: He alone is the Way. This law makes clear that salvation isn’t found in good works, religious rituals, or personal spirituality—it’s found in the finished work of Christ on the cross.
Law 4 — We Must Individually Receive Jesus as Savior and Lord
📖 Key Verse: “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” — John 1:12
Additional: “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” — Romans 10:9
💬 Why It’s Essential: Knowing the first three laws isn’t enough—there must be a personal, heartfelt response from our heart to God. This law emphasizes that salvation must be a personal decision to put our faith in Christ. Faith isn’t inherited from our family or earned through church attendance; salvation is received by faith as a free gift through grace. Then we must respond with a personal decision to trust and follow Jesus.
How to Respond
If you’ve never taken this incredible step of faith and put your trust in Christ, you can do so right now. Pray sincerely from your heart:
“Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and cannot save myself. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I trust You as my Savior and choose to follow You as my Lord. Come into my life, forgive me of my sins. I make you King of my life and will follow you all the days of my life. Amen.”
Get Connected:
If you made the life-changing decision to follow Jesus Christ, I encourage you to get connected to a Bible believing church near you, in person, and begin attending on Sundays. Additionally, get involved in a small group Bible study during the week to help you grow in your faith. We also encourage you to share this decision with others and let them know about your journey of faith. Lastly, we encourage you to get baptized in water, full submersion, to show outwardly what’s happened within you.
