Residents of Whitmire are preparing for two days of evangelistic meetings after years of prayer for spiritual renewal in the small South Carolina community.
Residents and community leaders in Whitmire, South Carolina, are praying for spiritual revival ahead of evangelistic services scheduled for Sept. 26 and 27.
World Harvest Ministry is organizing the weekend gatherings, and residents told CBN News they hope the meetings will bring spiritual renewal to the small town and surrounding region.
Whitmire Mayor Billy Hollingsworth said preparations for the event have been developing for more than two years.
South Carolina state Rep. Joe White, whose district includes the area, also told CBN he hopes to see revival in the community.
Whitmire sits in Newberry County between Columbia and Greenville and, like many small communities, has faced economic and social challenges over the years.
Organizers and residents say their focus is not simply drawing a crowd for a weekend event but praying for lasting spiritual change.
Whether the Whitmire gathering develops into something broader will only become clear after the weekend, but residents are entering the meetings with significant expectations and years of prayer behind them.
