President Makes Good On His Promise to Protect Christians With Christmas Day Operation Targeting Terrorists
President Trump announced Christmas night that the United States carried out what he described as a “powerful and deadly strike” against ISIS-linked terrorists operating in northwest Nigeria, citing widespread violence against Christians in the region.
In a statement on Truth Social, President Trump said the military action was ordered in response to what he characterized as the targeted slaughter of innocent Christians.
“Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria,” Trump said. “They have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even centuries.”
The President said he had previously warned the terrorist group to halt the violence or face consequences.
“I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was,” he said.
According to the statement, the strikes were carried out by the U.S. military and involved “numerous perfect strikes,” which Trump said demonstrated American military capability and resolve.
“Under my leadership, our Country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper,” the President added.
Trump concluded by praising the U.S. Armed Forces and tying the announcement to the Christmas holiday.
“May God Bless our Military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all,” he said, issuing a warning that further action would follow if attacks on Christians continue.
Nigeria has experienced years of Islamist violence from extremist groups, including Boko Haram and ISIS-affiliated factions. Christian communities in the country’s northern and central regions have frequently been targeted, prompting ongoing concern from religious freedom advocates and international watchdog organizations.
