Advocates Question The Justice Of Maison DesChamps’ Sentence Following Las Vegas Sphere Climb
In a case many pro-life advocates say highlights a troubling imbalance in justice, pro-life activist Maison DesChamps—widely known as “Pro-Life Spiderman”—is now serving 45 days behind bars for a February 2024 climb of the Las Vegas Sphere that raised funds to help a pregnant mother facing homelessness and considering abortion.
The climb, which drew national attention, was undertaken to support a woman who reportedly had no financial resources and had scheduled an abortion due to overwhelming economic hardship. Funds raised through the effort provided housing stability and support, allowing both the mother and her child to move forward. The child was ultimately carried to term.
Now, more than a year later, DesChamps has been sentenced on a misdemeanor charge and ordered to pay $77,000 in damages to the Sphere—damages his legal team argues he did not cause.
Thomas More Society, which represented DesChamps, sharply criticized the outcome.
“We zealously represented Maison DesChamps and ensured the court had a full understanding of the purpose behind his actions, including his noble and successful efforts to raise funds for pregnant mothers,” said Special Counsel Sean Sullivan. “We will continue to evaluate next steps in light of this outcome and review available legal options.”
Supporters point to the irony: a man whose actions directly helped save a mother from homelessness and gave a child a chance at life is now incarcerated and indebted, while his wife is seven months pregnant with their own child.
DesChamps has become known nationwide for scaling buildings to draw attention to the needs of vulnerable pregnant women and to raise financial support for mothers in crisis pregnancies.
