The Newport Beach-based restaurant company says the pilot brings health scores, illness reports and other risk information into one centralized system.
Chipotle Mexican Grill is piloting a new food-safety risk-management platform built on Palantir’s Foundry software, according to reporting by WIRED and a statement from Chipotle.
The platform is designed to bring multiple indicators into one place so restaurant teams can identify trends and prioritize follow-up. WIRED reported that the system can analyze information such as health-department scores, pest incidents and employee illnesses to help assess risk at individual locations.
Chipotle Chief Corporate Affairs and Food Safety Officer Laurie Schalow told WIRED that the company is piloting the platform to provide “a more consistent and centralized view” of food-safety risk and support proactive, data-informed decisions.
Orange County corporate connection
Chipotle is headquartered in Newport Beach, making the initiative a notable technology and operations story for one of Orange County’s best-known public companies.
The company has not publicly detailed the full deployment schedule or how broadly the platform is currently being used. Palantir has also worked with other large food and consumer companies on supply-chain and operational data systems.
The pilot comes as restaurants and food suppliers nationwide continue to invest in faster detection of contamination, illness and supply-chain problems.
