Both Orange Unified campuses received silver-level honors for their approach to student behavior and support.
Cambridge and Villa Park elementary schools have earned 2026 silver-level recognition from California’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program, Orange Unified announced September 16.
The recognition highlights how schools establish expectations, encourage constructive behavior and support students who need additional help. According to the district’s announcement, both campuses demonstrated sustained implementation of those practices.
What it means for students
Often shortened to PBIS, the approach includes schoolwide expectations, positive reinforcement and collaboration among educators and families. Schools also use data to guide decisions about student support.
For parents, those practices touch everyday questions: Does my child understand classroom expectations? Are adults consistent? What happens when a student struggles?
Superintendent Rachel H. Monárrez said the work emphasizes belonging, connection and high expectations.
Recognition this fall
The schools will be honored during the California PBIS Conference, October 7–9 in Sacramento.
Separately, Orange Unified has invited families, employees and students to apply for its 2026–27 district advisory teams. The invitation, posted in the district’s September 16 news updates, offers another avenue for families to help shape students’ school experiences.
