The Christian rock band’s six-song release arrives October 9 with themes of suffering, perseverance and hope.
Skillet will release its new EP, After the Storm, on Friday, October 9, with frontman John Cooper describing the project as some of the band’s most personal music.
In an interview with The Christian Post, Cooper said painful experiences involving his family and a church they had served helped shape the emotions behind the songs.
He said he wanted listeners to connect the music with their own struggles rather than focus on his circumstances.
Produced by David Cowell and Skillet guitarist Korey Cooper, the six-song release includes “Scream,” “Lift Me Up,” “Grave Stomper,” “After the Storm,” “Heaven Help Us” and “Come and Find Me.”
Cooper said the music acknowledges anger, isolation and grief while pointing listeners toward hope in Christ.
“I hope to communicate to people that God is with you during those times,” he told The Christian Post.
The release comes as the band prepares its “Comatose: 20 Years, Still Screaming Tour,” marking two decades since its 2006 album.
