County takes control of two behavioral-health campuses after ending its partnership with Mind OC
Orange County has settled its legal dispute with Mind OC, the nonprofit operating as Be Well OC, clearing a major obstacle to opening a delayed behavioral-health campus in Irvine.
The agreement, announced October 6, ends the operational partnership and gives the county’s Health Care Agency control over the campuses in Orange and Irvine.
Clinical teams are preparing to begin services at the Irvine facility, according to the county’s statement reported by LAist. An opening date has not been announced.
Board Chairman Doug Chaffee told City News Service that the Irvine campus will include services for children. He said the settlement involved the return of more than $4 million in construction funds and county payment of more than $2 million in outstanding bills.
The dispute included competing allegations over public spending and lease obligations. Those allegations should not be treated as findings of wrongdoing.
Mind OC board chairman Dr. Richard Afable said the organization remains committed to serving Orange County residents.
Both campuses are expected to receive new branding as the county assumes full control.
