Friday’s Irvine celebration includes a free orchestra concert and family festival.
Concordia University Irvine is celebrating its 50th anniversary October 2–3 with ribbon-cuttings, concerts and public events at its campus.
Friday’s program begins at 2 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting for the renovated and expanded CU Center for Worship and the Performing Arts, followed by a Concordia Symphony Orchestra concert. Admission to the concert is free, and tickets are not required.
The university’s renovation plan expands the center by more than 6,000 square feet and increases seating from 500 to approximately 800. Improvements include acoustics, lighting, choir seating and a rebuilt organ for worship services and performances.
The celebration also includes a ribbon-cutting for the Golden Eagle Athletics Complex and tours of new and renovated facilities.
A free Family & Friends Festival runs Friday from 5 to 8:30 p.m., featuring rides, carnival games and treats. A separate taco dinner costs $10 for guests.
Saturday’s schedule includes a HymnFest and celebration service at 2 p.m., with tickets priced at $20, followed by an OktoberFest celebration and alumni reunions.
Events take place at 1530 Concordia West in Irvine. The university lists the anniversary activities as open to the public.
