BGEA reports assurances during a North Carolina visit as Graham prepares for another evangelistic event in Hanoi.
A Vietnamese government minister pledged religious-freedom protections during a visit with Franklin Graham in North Carolina, according to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
The delegation included government officials and Vietnamese church leaders. Its visit included stops in Charlotte and North Wilkesboro, where the group met with Graham and learned about the work of BGEA and Samaritan’s Purse.
In an October 15 announcement, BGEA reported that Minister Nguyễn Đình Khang offered assurances about religious freedom and cooperation with Christian organizations.
Graham thanked Vietnamese officials for permission to hold another evangelistic event in Hanoi, planned for March 2027. The delegation also learned about humanitarian operations through Samaritan’s Purse.
The Christian Post reported on the meeting October 16, describing the delegation’s discussions with Graham and the preparations for his return to Vietnam.
The minister’s assurances represent the government’s stated position. They do not independently establish that restrictions on churches or religious practice have ended.
A Vietnamese church leader participating in the visit also acknowledged continuing limitations, according to BGEA’s account. The meeting brought those concerns into a discussion that also included future cooperation and evangelistic plans.
The Hanoi gathering remains a planned event. Further details about its arrangements and participation are expected closer to the date.
