The Dallas-area church says 882 people were baptized across its eight campuses on Sept. 27—200 more than during last year’s Baptism Sunday.
Lakepointe Church in Texas baptized 882 people across its eight campuses Sunday in one of the largest single-day baptism events reported by a U.S. church this year.
The Dallas-area congregation held its Baptism Sunday on Sept. 27, inviting people who had decided to follow Jesus to publicly declare their faith through baptism.
Senior Pastor Josh Howerton and the church said the total represented individual stories of people coming through addiction, broken relationships, doubt, loss and other struggles before placing their faith in Christ.
This year’s total was exactly 200 higher than Lakepointe’s Baptism Sunday last year. The church also reported 2,772 first-time decisions for Jesus during its Easter services earlier this year.
The Lakepointe baptisms follow several other large baptism gatherings around the country this month, including 458 baptisms at Biltmore Church in North Carolina and student baptisms connected with campus worship events.
