Controversy Erupted After March 15 Overreach
The controversy erupted after Boasberg’s March 15, decision to issue a 14-day restraining order against the administration’s use of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, a rarely invoked law allowing deportations without hearings during wartime or invasion scenarios. The ruling followed a lawsuit by the ACLU and Democracy Forward challenging the law’s application to current immigration enforcement.
