Biden Endorses Kamala Harris to Lead the Fight Against Trump – Nation Reacts to the Unexpected Announcement
In a stunning turn of events, President Joe Biden announced today that he will not be seeking re-election in the 2024 presidential race. The announcement came in an official statement released this morning, and Biden later reinforced his decision in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Biden wrote, “Today, America has the strongest economy in the world,” the statement read. “We’ve made Historic investments in rebuilding our Nation, in lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, and in expanding affordable health care 0 a record number of Americans. We’ve provided critically needed care needed to a million veterans exposed to toxic substances. Passed the first gun safety law in 30 years. Appointed the first African American woman to the Supreme Coun. And passed the most significant climate legislation in the history of the world. America has never been better positioned to lead than we are today.”
Calls to Step Down Gained Momentum
Biden’s withdrawal comes amid dozens and dozens of calls from within his party to step down. Biden previously said it would take the Lord Almighty coming down to tell him to withdraw. Biden’s health is clearly in decline and that was on full display after his dismal debate performance against former President Donald Trump.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down…”
Vice President Kamala Harris, now endorsed by Biden, is expected to become the frontrunner for the party’s nomination. The Democratic National Convention is scheduled in Chicago from August 19-22.
Suprise, Support, Speculation
Reactions from political figures and the public are pouring in, reflecting a mix of surprise, support, and speculation about the future of the Democratic campaign. As the nation absorbs this breaking news, all eyes will be on Vice President Harris and the upcoming steps she and the Democratic Party will take.
VP Kamala Harris said it is her intention to earn and win the nomination, thanks Joe Biden for his “extraordinary leadership.”
“On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country,” Harris wrote on X. “I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination.”
Trump Reacts
Donald Trump reacted on Truth Social stating, “Crooked Joe Biden is the Worst President, by far, in the History of our Nation. He has done everything possible to destroy our Country, from our Southern Border, to Energy Dominance, National Security, International Standing, and so much more. He was annihilated in an Earth Shattering Debate, and now the Corrupt and Radical Democrats are throwing him overboard,” Trump wrote.
Trump called him out for not being fit to serve the American people. “He was not fit to serve from the very beginning, but the people around him lied to America about his Complete and Total Mental, Physical, and Cognitive Demise. Whoever the Left puts up now will just be more of the same. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
