Powerful New AI Technology Raises Alarms in Both Finance and National Security
Top U.S. financial leaders were quietly summoned to Washington this week for what insiders describe as a high-stakes briefing on emerging artificial intelligence threats.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell reportedly convened the heads of America’s most powerful banks for a closed-door meeting focused on the risks posed by a new generation of AI technology.
Among those called in were executives from financial giants like Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo, institutions considered critical to the U.S. economy.
A New Kind of Threat
At the center of the concern is Anthropic and its newly revealed AI model, known as “Claude Mythos.”
Unlike earlier AI systems focused on generating text or assisting with tasks, this model is reportedly capable of identifying and exploiting software vulnerabilities—at a level rivaling or exceeding even highly skilled human experts.
Security experts warn that such capabilities could dramatically increase the scale and speed of cyberattacks—potentially targeting banks, infrastructure, and even national defense systems.
From Military Partner to Security Risk
The situation is further complicated by a growing rift between Anthropic and the U.S. government.
The company had previously secured a major defense contract, signaling a close relationship with the Pentagon. But that partnership unraveled after disagreements over how the technology should be used—particularly around autonomous weapons and surveillance.
Following the dispute, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth designated the company as a potential supply chain risk, effectively restricting its integration into sensitive government systems.
A federal appeals court has since upheld that designation, reinforcing concerns at the highest levels of government.
Meanwhile, Anthropic has warned publicly that its own technology—if misused—could empower adversaries and destabilize global systems.
A Christian Perspective
Scripture has long warned about the tension between knowledge and wisdom—between what we can build and what we should build.
Even as nations race to harness AI’s power, the deeper need is for discernment, humility, and moral clarity.
Because technology, no matter how advanced, cannot replace truth. And intelligence—artificial or otherwise—cannot substitute for wisdom.
