Trump Hails Musk’s Patriotism, Plans to Station Tesla at White House for Staff Use

President Donald Trump made headlines today by purchasing a striking red Tesla Model S during an event at the White House, joined by Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Musk’s son. The purchase, which Trump described as a gesture of support for Musk and American innovation, underscored his admiration for the billionaire entrepreneur, whom he called a “great patriot.”

“I’m going to buy because, number one, it’s a great product—as good as it gets,” Trump said, gesturing toward the sleek vehicle. “And number two, because this man has devoted his energy and his life to doing this.” Trump praised Musk’s contributions to Tesla, noting it as the only successful car company launched in the U.S. in decades, and lauded its “super successful” track record.

The president emphasized that his decision was also a statement against what he perceives as unfair treatment of Musk by “a very small group of people” for his patriotic efforts to cut waste in the federal government through DOGE. “You can’t be penalized for being a patriot,” Trump declared. “He’s been treated very unfairly, and I just want people to know that.”

While Trump won’t be driving the car himself—citing Secret Service restrictions—he plans to keep it at the White House for staff use. “I’m not allowed to drive,” he said with a chuckle. “I love to drive cars, but I’m going to let my staff use it. They’re all excited about that.” He also revealed he previously bought a Tesla Cybertruck for a “very special young woman”—his granddaughter Kai, a 17 year old aspiring professional golfer who uses it to carry her clubs—calling it “very safe” and “strong.”

Musk, visibly appreciative, thanked Trump for his support. “This means a lot,” he said. “It’s really terrible that there’s so much violence being directed against Tesla owners, stores, and supporters—innocent people who’ve done nothing wrong.” He noted minor physical damage to Tesla properties but stressed that law enforcement is vigilant in preventing escalation.

The event took a lighthearted turn when a reporter asked if Musk would offer Trump a discount, referencing Trump’s book The Art of the Deal. “I know he could give me a discount, but honestly, I don’t want to ask for one,” Trump replied. “I’m president—I want to pay full price.”

Trump Says Country Is Going to ‘Boom’

Trump also touched on broader economic themes, expressing optimism about America’s future despite market fluctuations tied to his tariff policies. “I think our country is going to boom,” he said, dismissing recession fears and attributing current economic challenges to the Biden administration. He highlighted Tesla’s American-made vehicles, with Musk noting that the company’s Texas factory—the largest and most advanced of its kind—produces cars with the highest U.S. content on the market.

In a bold announcement, Musk revealed plans to double Tesla’s U.S. vehicle output within two years, calling it “an act of faith in America” spurred by Trump’s policies. He also teased the upcoming Cybercab, a self-driving vehicle set for production in Texas next year, which will lack a steering wheel or pedals—a feature Trump jokingly declined to test. “I’ll pass on that one,” he quipped.

The president briefly addressed violence against Tesla dealerships, vowing to crack down on perpetrators. “We’re going to catch them, and they’re going to go through hell,” he said, labeling such acts as attacks on a “great American company.”

The red Model S, which Trump admired for its 0-to-60 mph acceleration in two seconds—“faster than a Ferrari”—will soon grace the White House grounds, a symbol of his support for Musk and American manufacturing.
