Republicans Say Democrats Are Holding America Hostage To Appease Their Marxist Base As Families, Troops, And Small Businesses Suffer
WASHINGTON, D.C. — House Speaker Mike Johnson issued a blistering rebuke of Democratic leadership this week, declaring that “the Democrat Party as we’ve known it is over” following House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ endorsement of socialist New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.
Johnson connected the endorsement to what he called “a Marxist takeover” of the Democratic Party and blamed Senate Democrats for prolonging the government shutdown to appease their far-left base.
“The House Democrats have chosen a side,” Johnson said. “They’ve shown the world what they really believe. There is no longer a place for centrists and moderates in their party.”
According to Johnson, the endorsement of Mamdani—an openly socialist lawmaker who has expressed support for policies such as abolishing borders, defunding police, and legalizing prostitution—symbolizes a sharp leftward turn for Democrats nationally.
“This is the clearest sign yet that the radical insurgent movement in the Democrat Party is succeeding,” Johnson continued. “Hakeem Jeffries gave his endorsement to a socialist who sympathized with Hamas, and now every House Democrat will co-own the consequences of what they do to America’s largest city.”

Blaming Democrats for the Shutdown
Speaker Johnson also held Democrats responsible for the ongoing government shutdown, arguing that they have voted repeatedly to keep the government closed while pushing policies that would fund illegal immigration and foreign aid.
“Every Republican in Congress wants to stop this madness desperately,” Johnson said. “But we can’t do it alone. We need Democrats in the Senate to cooperate. Instead, they’ve chosen to use the pain of the American people as leverage.”
Johnson pointed out that over 1.4 million federal workers have missed paychecks and that small businesses across the country are suffering as federal contracts and Small Business Administration (SBA) loans have been frozen.
“They are using the pain of hardworking Americans as leverage,” Johnson said. “Chuck Schumer himself boasted that every day of the shutdown ‘gets better for us.’ That’s not leadership — that’s cruelty.”
Economic Fallout on Main Street
Kelly Loeffler, Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, joined Johnson to describe the devastating economic toll the shutdown has taken on small business owners.
“Every single day of this shutdown stops 320 local businesses from accessing $170 million in SBA loans,” Loeffler said. “That’s $4.5 billion in blocked loans so far — and all because Senate Democrats are playing politics with people’s lives.”
Loeffler noted that the shutdown has jeopardized thousands of jobs and billions in lost revenue, adding, “Chuck Schumer and his caucus are willing to sacrifice Main Street to appease the socialist radicals now in charge of their party.”
‘No Longer Your Father’s Democratic Party’
Johnson warned that the party’s transformation — from President Kennedy’s working-class coalition to what he described as a Marxist movement — represents a danger to America’s constitutional foundation.
“This is not your father’s Democrat Party,” he said. “What we are witnessing is truly the end of the Democratic Party as we’ve known it.”
Johnson concluded his remarks by urging Americans to call on Senate Democrats to reopen the government and reject the socialist direction their leadership has embraced.
“The American people need to be louder than the Marxists who have taken over their party,” he said. “Democrats should fear hardworking voters more than the radicals demanding they destroy this country.”
