American Bible Society’s latest report examines beliefs about biblical miracles and the supernatural.
Forty-nine percent of American adults affirm the Virgin Birth, according to findings released October 8 by American Bible Society.
The organization’s State of the Bible report also found that 53% at least somewhat believe in Jesus’ resurrection.
The findings come from a nationally representative survey conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago through its AmeriSpeak panel. Researchers interviewed 2,649 adults online and by telephone January 8–27, 2026, across all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
The newly released chapter explores beliefs about God, biblical miracles and personal spiritual experiences. It reflects responses collected earlier this year, rather than a survey conducted in October.
Respondents also described experiences they considered supernatural, including answered prayer and divine healing. Those findings record participants’ accounts and beliefs; the survey does not independently establish that the reported events were miraculous.
American Bible Society researcher John Farquhar Plake said the findings suggest widespread interest in spiritual questions, even as Americans seek answers through different religious practices.
