Long Beach adults age 19 and older can complete Career Online High School on a flexible schedule with an academic coach.
Long Beach residents who left high school before earning a diploma have a free option to finish through the Long Beach Public Library.
The library’s Career Online High School program offers an accredited high school diploma and career-focused coursework to eligible adults. Since the program launched locally in 2017, more than 75 students have graduated through the Long Beach Public Library.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must be at least 19 years old, live in the City of Long Beach and have a Long Beach Public Library card. The library says participants can complete coursework online 24 hours a day and have up to 18 months to finish the program.
Students are also paired with an academic coach for individual support throughout the process.
How the Program Works
Interested residents begin with an online readiness survey. A library staff member then contacts applicants about next steps and eligibility. The program is designed for adults who need flexibility because of work, family responsibilities or other commitments that can make a traditional classroom schedule difficult.
Why It Matters Locally
A high school diploma can open access to jobs, career training and additional education. By offering the program through the public library, Long Beach is using an existing neighborhood institution to remove cost and scheduling barriers for adult learners.
For residents who have considered going back to school but assumed it was too late or too expensive, the library’s program offers a practical place to start.
