Officers were dispatched at approximately 8:52 p.m. on Sept. 5 and found an adult pedestrian on the Metro light-rail tracks. The person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

What Investigators Say Happened

Police said the preliminary investigation indicates an unidentified vehicle was traveling southbound on Long Beach Boulevard when it struck the pedestrian in the roadway. The pedestrian was subsequently struck by a Metro light-rail vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle left the scene and has not been identified. Police have not released the pedestrian’s name pending notification of next of kin.

Investigation Remains Open

Collision Investigation detectives are continuing to investigate the sequence of events, the vehicle involved and other circumstances surrounding the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information that could assist investigators should contact the Long Beach Police Department’s Collision Investigation detail. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through Crime Stoppers.

Why It Matters Locally

Long Beach has continued to focus on pedestrian and traffic safety as residents navigate streets shared by cars, buses, bicycles and rail. Hit-and-run cases can be especially difficult to solve without witness accounts or video, making public assistance important.
