Relief teams organize to deploy to storm-impacted areas
Meteorologists are describing Hurricane Beryl as a phenomenon in the historical record. Fueled by record-warm Atlantic surface water, Beryl rapidly intensified into a Category 4 hurricane yesterday, making it the earliest Category 4 hurricane on record and the easternmost June hurricane ever.
On Monday, Hurricane Beryl made a devastating landfall on Grenada’s Carriacou Island, bringing with it sustained winds of 150 mph. The hurricane tore through the Windward Islands, causing significant devastation and leaving communities in dire need of assistance.

Widespread Devastation and Growing Concerns
The impact of Hurricane Beryl has been significant. In the southeastern Caribbean, at least six people have lost their lives due to the storm’s ferocity. The hurricane has left a trail of destruction, with homes flattened, power lines downed, and communities inundated by floodwaters. Emergency services are overwhelmed, and the need for immediate relief is critical.
As Beryl roars through open waters, it continues to pose a severe threat. The storm is currently a powerful Category 4, heading towards Jamaica. A hurricane warning is in effect for Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Haiti’s entire southern coast. Beryl is expected to bring life-threatening winds and storm surges to these areas, prompting officials to warn residents in flood-prone regions to prepare for evacuation.
Crisis Response International’s Immediate Action
In response to this crisis, Crisis Response International (CRI) is taking the lead in mobilizing Christian volunteers to support the affected communities. CRI is urgently calling for seasoned responders to assist with debris removal, provide chaplaincy services, and share the love of Christ with those in need.
“This hurricane is absolutely un unprecedented,” shared CRI Founder, Sean Malone. We’ve never seen something like this so strong this early in the season that’s one of our distinctive calls is those unprecedented events were almost there on every single one of them as soon as we began to see this I knew that we were going to lean into this our team has been working hard now.”
CRI is actively engaging in efforts to remove debris and distribute emergency supplies to those impacted by Hurricane Beryl.
“90% of the homes have been destroyed,” continued Malone regarding the devastation the storm has left in its wake. “This thing is a high-end category 4, technically category 5 heading up to Jamaica.”
Alongside these essential services, dedicated CRI chaplains are ready to offer pastoral care, providing much-needed emotional and spiritual support to individuals and families experiencing this catastrophe.
