New analysis says artificial-intelligence infrastructure could consume 3.6% of U.S. GDP annually through 2032
The race to build America’s artificial-intelligence infrastructure could require more than $10 trillion in investment through 2032, according to new research examining the enormous amount of capital flowing into AI.
Columbia Business School professor Stijn Van Nieuwerburgh estimates the buildout could consume approximately 3.6% of U.S. gross domestic product annually through 2032.
The analysis says the expansion is increasingly being financed through more complex arrangements rather than simply through the large cash reserves of major technology companies.
The scale could make the AI infrastructure boom larger relative to the economy than previous American buildouts involving electricity, railroads, interstate highways or the internet, according to the research.
