Christian content continues to surge at box office
Christian content has never been in higher demand or hotter at the box office than right now. With the incredible success of Jesus Revolution and The Chosen as two examples, Christians are flooding the box office in support of quality, family-friendly, faith-inspiring content, and the latest win is ‘His Only Son.” Despite meager expectations and a small marketing budget, the film is at number 5 at the box office and is gaining momentum.
Controversial moment of the Old Testament
“His Only Son recounts one of the most controversial moments in the Old Testament—when Abraham was commanded by God to sacrifice his son Isaac on the mountain of Moriah. While traveling to the place of the sacrifice, alongside Isaac and two servants, Abraham is flooded with vivid memories from the years he and Sarah spent longing for the son they were promised—the son he must now lay upon the altar.”
Angel Studios, the same studio responsible for The Chosen, produced His Only Son. Director David Helling said he has been working on the project for the last five years and is excited to see the impact it’s already having.
A decade in the making
“I spent nearly a decade endeavoring to do this through short films, said Helling, but for the last five years, I’ve poured my life into this feature film, His Only Son.” Helling came to faith while serving as a marine in Iraq. Now he wants others to see what he saw in the Scriptures. The film was released on March 31, just before Easter 2023.
