Lawsuit Claims Retaliation, Harassment, and Coercive Relationship—Perry’s Legal Team Denies All Allegations
Actor Derek Dixon, a cast member from Tyler Perry’s The Oval on BET, has filed a $260 million lawsuit against the media mogul, alleging sexual assault, harassment, and professional retaliation.
In the civil complaint, Dixon claims that Perry exploited his power in the entertainment industry by offering career advancement in exchange for what Dixon describes as a coercive, sexually charged relationship. When Dixon resisted or tried to end the alleged dynamic, he says he faced retaliation, including being cut off from future acting roles within Perry’s extensive production network.
Perry’s legal team swiftly responded, calling the lawsuit a “scam” and categorically denying all allegations. “This is a baseless attempt to damage Mr. Perry’s reputation and extort money through falsehoods,” a spokesperson stated.
The lawsuit comes as a shock to many, given Perry’s well-documented journey of faith, perseverance, and philanthropy. Once homeless and living out of his car while struggling to get his plays off the ground, Perry credits his Christian faith with transforming his life. Over the years, he has openly shared about moments of deep prayer and breakthrough—testimonies he’s preached about in churches, including a widely viewed message at Lakewood Church hosted by Pastor Joel Osteen in Houston.
In his appearance at Lakewood, Perry recounted the role of forgiveness, generosity, and God’s grace in his rise from poverty to becoming the first African-American to own a major film studio outright. “You have no idea what people are going through,” Perry said in his sermon, encouraging the audience to believe in restoration. “God will bless you when you keep your heart right.”
Now, the media mogul who built a faith-rooted empire—known for characters like Madea and uplifting themes of redemption and justice—is at the center of a lawsuit that challenges that very image.
Dixon’s legal team claims this case is not just about one man’s story but about accountability for powerful figures who “operate above scrutiny.” As of now, no criminal charges have been filed, and the case remains a civil matter.
Tyler Perry Studios, based in Atlanta, has not issued a separate statement beyond denying the claims. Supporters and critics alike are watching closely to see how the court handles the serious allegations against one of Hollywood’s most influential voices.
