The new agents have their own cloud computers and can pursue ongoing goals while working with connected tools.
OpenAI has introduced a new category of always-on artificial-intelligence agents called dots, designed to continue working toward users’ goals even when they are not actively chatting with the system.
According to OpenAI, dots are powered by GPT-6 Astra. Each dot has its own cloud computer, can use connected tools and can keep making progress between conversations.
From Chatbot to Ongoing Assistant
Traditional AI assistants generally wait for a user to submit a request. Dots are designed to operate more continuously.
OpenAI says a dot can take ownership of ongoing responsibilities, determine next steps and bring completed work or decisions back to the user for review.
Users choose which apps a dot can access, what it should focus on and what it is allowed to do independently.
Rollout Begins With Paid Plans
OpenAI says dots are rolling out gradually to eligible Pro and Business Premium users age 18 and older in supported markets. Enterprise access is available in beta and is off by default.
The launch reflects a broader industry shift from AI systems that primarily answer questions toward agents capable of carrying out longer-running work.
