Largest Private Donation to U.S. Children Aims to Jump-Start Savings for Millions
Entrepreneurs Michael and Susan Dell announced a $6.25 billion donation to seed investment accounts for 25 million American children, making it one of the largest private philanthropic gifts in U.S. history.
The funds will provide a $250 deposit into the new “Trump Accounts” for children aged 10 and under who were too old to qualify for the federal savings program enacted earlier this year.
The Big Picture
The Trump Accounts program — created under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act — gives $1,000 at birth to children born between 2025 and 2028. The Dells’ donation fills the gap for older kids who missed the cutoff.
Accounts can be used at age 18 for education, homeownership, or starting a business — with funds invested in low-cost index funds managed through the federal system.
Why It Matters
From a dorm room at the University of Texas to one of the wealthiest and biggest philanthropists in the world, Michael Dell is leading by example and setting a precedent that billionaires don’t need to give just when they die, they can share their wealth now and make a difference for millions. This is one of the largest charitable gifts ever directed at American children. Supporters say the move gives millions of families — especially lower-income households — a first step toward building generational wealth.
If families participate and contribute over time, the accounts could grow into meaningful assets by adulthood. The initiative’s real impact will depend on participation rates and investment performance.
Faith Perspective
Scripture teaches the value of wise stewardship and the responsibility to “provide for those of our household” (1 Tim. 5:8). The Bible also commends generosity and teaches that some have the gift of generosity and as such, they are to give cheerfully. While government programs are not a substitute for discipleship or family responsibility, giving millions of children a financial foundation can open doors that poverty often closes.
For Christians, this moment highlights the power of sowing into the future and investing in the potential, dignity, and God-given purpose of every child. A seed may appear small, but when multiplied over time, it can grow into something life-changing.
