VP Compares Abortion Ideology to Ancient Child Sacrifice, Says Civilization Must Remain Under God
WASHINGTON — Vice President JD Vance delivered a stark warning about America’s moral direction at the annual March for Life rally, comparing the modern left’s embrace of abortion to ancient pagan practices and urging the nation to recommit to God’s design for life, family, and civilization.
Speaking before tens of thousands gathered in the nation’s capital, Vance framed the abortion debate as far more than a political issue, calling it a defining spiritual and civilizational choice.
“As important as all this politics stuff is, it is about whether we will remain a civilization under God or whether we ultimately return to the paganism that dominated the past,” Vance said.
“Life Is a Gift, Not a Burden”
Vance sharply criticized cultural narratives that portray marriage and children as obstacles rather than blessings.
“Today, the far left in this country tells our young people that marriage and children are obstacles, that it’s irresponsible, even immoral, because of climate change or some other reason,” he said.
He rejected the claim that life itself is a burden.
“They tell us that life itself is a burden, but we here at this march, we know that it’s a lie. We know that life is a gift.”
Thousands gathered at the March for Life Rally on Friday, January 23, held annually on the National Mall, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds to peacefully advocate for the dignity and protection of every human life, born and unborn. This year’s March for Life theme is: “Life is a Gift.”
God’s Design for Family and Society
The vice president emphasized the value of every child and the central role of the family in God’s design.
“We know that babies are precious because we know them and we love them, and we see the way that they can transform our families,” Vance said.
“We know that family is not just the source of a great joy, but it’s part of God’s design for men and women, a design that extends outward from the family to our neighborhoods, to our communities, and to the United States of America.”
In one of the most striking moments of the speech, Vance compared modern abortion ideology to ancient cultures that practiced child sacrifice, drawing sustained applause from the crowd.
Trump Leading “Most Pro-Life Administration in American History”
As Vance addressed the crowd, the White House released a statement declaring President Donald Trump “the most pro-life president in history,” highlighting a series of actions taken this week to advance what it described as a restored “culture of life.”
According to the White House, the Trump Administration has “unapologetically stood for the sanctity of life” since the president took office, recognizing that “all humans are created in the image of God, with infinite worth and boundless potential.”
Among the actions announced:
– President Trump issued a message declaring National Sanctity of Human Life Day.
– The State Department finalized a historic expansion of the Mexico City Policy, barring U.S. foreign assistance from subsidizing abortion, gender ideology, or DEI programs.
– The National Institutes of Health announced it is ending the use of fetal tissue from aborted babies in federally funded research.
– The Small Business Administration opened a review of $88 million in forgiven PPP loans received by Planned Parenthood affiliates.
– The Department of Health and Human Services issued a Notice of Violation to Illinois for forcing health care providers to refer for abortions in violation of federal conscience protections.
– HHS rescinded eight Biden-era guidance documents promoting abortion mandates and issued a nationwide “Dear Colleague” letter reaffirming protections for providers who object to abortion, sterilization, or assisted suicide.
– HHS also moved to roll back a Biden-era policy guaranteeing taxpayer-funded abortions for unaccompanied illegal alien minors.
Trump Reaffirms Right to Life
In a video message played for the crowd, President Trump reaffirmed the nation’s recognition of the right to life from its founding, declaring that every life is a “sacred gift from God.”
The White House also highlighted Trump’s broader pro-life record, including ending taxpayer-funded abortion, expanding conscience protections, supporting faith-based adoption and foster care, ordering a Justice Department investigation into government weaponization against Christians, and pardoning 23 pro-life Americans prosecuted under the previous administration.
Trump also signed the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which established investment accounts for newborns, permanently increased the Child Tax Credit, expanded childcare tax credits, strengthened paid family leave incentives, and protected Medicaid from funding abortion providers.
As the March for Life concluded, administration officials reiterated their commitment to protecting the unborn and supporting families, declaring that the Trump Administration remains “steadfast in its commitment to the pro-life cause.”
