Elon Musk has declared war on gender ideology, often termed the “woke mind virus,” and he has the support of millions of parents across the nation. In a revealing interview with Dr. Jordan Peterson, Musk expressed his anguish over losing his son to what he described as the “woke mind virus.” “I lost my son, essentially. They call it deadnaming for a reason,” Musk lamented. “The reason it’s called deadnaming is because your son is dead. My son Xavier is dead, killed by the woke mind virus.”
Musk Says He Was Tricked
Musk disclosed that during the confusion of the COVID-19 pandemic, he was “tricked” into consenting to puberty blockers for Xavier, which he described as “essentially sterilization drugs.” He admitted to being unaware of the procedures’ implications at the time, driven by fears that Xavier “might commit suicide” without them. Dr. Peterson emphasized that no credible clinician has ever believed puberty blockers prevent suicide, branding such assertions from doctors as a “lie right from the outset.”
Supporting Dr. Peterson’s viewpoint, a 2022 study by the Heritage Foundation found that states with easy access to puberty blockers and hormones for children actually experienced increased suicide rates. Additional data suggests that up to 88% of girls and 98% of boys with gender confusion desist with age, especially with counseling. An international group of doctors from nine countries has declared there is “no reliable evidence” that gender-related interventions prevent mental health issues and suicide.
Despite these findings, the lucrative gender surgery industry, which includes some children’s hospitals and pediatric doctors, continues to promote the suicide narrative. Puberty blockers can cost between $4,000 and $25,000 per year, while surgeries can be even more expensive. For example, chest surgeries can cost up to $10,900, and bottom surgeries can reach $24,990. A 2022 study from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine found that the median cost for chest reconstruction surgeries was nearly $30,000.
Vow to Destroy the Woke Mind Virus
In response to Dr. Peterson’s remarks, Musk said, “Incredibly evil, and I agree with you that the people that have been promoting this should go to prison.” Musk has vowed to “destroy the woke mind virus” due to its devastating impact on his son.
Following through on his vow, Musk announced plans to relocate SpaceX and his social media company X to Texas after California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a gender secrecy bill into law. This bill would require school employees to withhold information from parents about their child’s gender identity. Musk is also reportedly linked to a super political action committee supporting President Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy. Although the 2024 Republican platform does not explicitly address gender ideology, Trump has promised to end gender procedures for children if reelected.
Gaining Traction
The movement to end harmful and often irreversible puberty blockers, hormones, and surgeries is gaining traction. Several foreign governments have halted or limited these practices for children, and more than half of U.S. states have enacted laws banning such procedures. Since June 2024, federal courts have struck down multiple attempts by the current administration to fund gender procedures with taxpayer money and force gender-confused males into female sports and private spaces.
In August 2023, the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing on the dangers associated with gender transition attempts to inform future legislation. At the hearing, Chloe Cole, who once struggled with gender confusion but now accepts her female identity, shared her experience. She recounted how doctors coerced her parents with the false choice of having a “dead daughter” or a “live ‘transgender’ son,” leading to her irreversible double mastectomy at age 15. Rep. Harriet Hageman highlighted that gender transitions have a 100% failure rate, reinforcing the impossibility of changing one’s gender.
