In light of the recent March Yemen Signal group chat hack, a reported six National Security Council (N.S.C.) officials were relieved of duty following a White House meeting with journalist and activist Laura Loomer on Wednesday, according to U.S. officials. The firings, reported by the NY Times, came after Loomer presented the president with a list of N.S.C. staff.
The meeting, underscored the influence of Loomer—an independent investigative journalist working mostly on the X platform. The fired officials include Brian Walsh, senior director for intelligence; Maggie Dougherty, senior director for international organizations; and Thomas Boodry, senior director for legislative affairs. Deputy national security adviser Alex Wong—one of Loomer’s primary targets—the purge extended beyond the Oval Office encounter. Over the preceding weekend, several other N.S.C. officials on detail from their home agencies were reassigned, though these moves were unrelated to Loomer’s intervention.
