Former House Speaker Accepts Responsibility for Security Failures & Lack of National Guard
In a newly released documentary, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is seen expressing her frustration and concerns about the security failures that led to the January 6th Capitol breach. The documentary, shot by Pelosi’s daughter, Alexandra Pelosi, for HBO, captures some of the moments of January 6.
In the video, Pelosi is heard speaking to her chief of staff, Terri McCullough, as they are whisked away in a vehicle from the Capitol. “We have responsibility, Terri,” Pelosi is heard saying, acknowledging her role as Speaker of the House and responsibility over the Capitol Police. As the breach unfolded, Pelosi questioned the delayed response and the absence of the National Guard, which should have been there from the start.
“You’re gonna ask me in the middle of the thing, when they’ve already breached the inaugural stuff, ‘Should we call the Capitol Police?’ I mean the National Guard. Why weren’t the National Guard there to begin with?” Pelosi remarked, highlighting the confusion and urgency of the moment.
The New York Post reported on Pelosi’s comments, emphasizing her anger and acceptance of responsibility for the lack of security.
A spokeman for Pelosi told FOX News, “As the footage in its entirety plainly shows, Speaker Pelosi sprang into action in response to the attack on the Capitol — mobilizing the defense of the Capitol, urging the Administration to deploy the National Guard and coordinating the continuity of government. Cherry-picked, out-of-context clips do not change the fact that the Speaker of the House is not in charge of the security of the Capitol Complex — on January 6th or any other day of the week,” the spokesperson said. “Three years later, House Republicans are still attempting to whitewash the deadly insurrection.”
Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) posted to X, “Pelosi’s J6 Select Committee spent taxpayer’s money chasing false political narratives and using Hollywood producers for their ‘investigation.’ Her admission of responsibility directly contradicts their own narrative. #J6Truth”
Critics are calling this an admission of guilt. Pelosi and other supporting Democrats are calling it a “false narrative.”
🚨 Since January 6, 2021, Nancy Pelosi spent 3+ years and nearly $20 million creating a narrative to blame Donald Trump.
