Liberty University’s 51st Commencement Celebrates Graduates with Inspirational Messages

At Liberty University’s grand 51st commencement ceremony held at Williams Stadium, a crowd of 29,000 graduates from the Class of 2024 gathered to mark the culmination of their academic journey. The event was graced by esteemed speakers, including Senator Tim Scott, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Liberty University President, Dondi E. Costin, and Willie Robertson, CEO of Duck Commander, who left an indelible mark on the graduates with their motivational addresses.

Pompeo honored military heroes

Mike Pompeo shared a message of appreciation for the over 6,000 military-affiliated graduates at Liberty, with over 2,000 on active duty, possibly the most of any institution in the United States. 20% of all military chaplains are Liberty graduates.

“This institution takes pride in our military heroes. I will tell you, our military heroes need places like Liberty. Congratulations, I can not wait to see what the Lord brings to you next.”

Senator Tim Scott given honorary doctorate

Senator Tim Scott, known for his passionate advocacy for faith and public service, took the stage to deliver a powerful commencement address. He urged the graduates to embrace lives filled with boldness and dedication to serving God and their communities. Scott’s speech resonated deeply with the graduating class, encouraging them to embark on their post-graduate endeavors with courage and a sense of purpose. “Liberty and faith are sacred things,” he said. “They are worthy of being defended. Throughout 250 years of American history, our nation has always depended on the willingness of incredible men and women, and their families to sacrifice for it, to fight for it, and even to give their lives for it.”

Scott also was awarded an honorary doctorate degree as an honorary member of the class of 2024.

Duck Dynasty’s Willie Robertson closed in prayer

Following Senator Scott’s inspiring words, Willie Robertson, a prominent figure in the business world and a parent of one of the graduates, delivered a closing prayer that encapsulated the spirit of the ceremony. Robertson described the occasion as “a slice of Heaven,” emphasizing the joyous and transformative nature of the event as graduates prepared to step into the next chapter of their lives.

The atmosphere at Williams Stadium was one of jubilation, worship, and reflection as graduates celebrated their academic achievements alongside family, friends, and faculty members. Liberty University, known for its commitment to fostering academic excellence and faith-based values, provided a fitting backdrop for this significant milestone in the lives of thousands of graduates.

Champions for Christ

Reflecting on their time at Liberty University, many graduates expressed gratitude for the support and guidance they received throughout their academic journey. The commencement ceremony served as a culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and personal growth, setting the stage for graduates to make meaningful contributions to society as, “Champions for Christ”.

As the Class of 2024 transitions into the next phase of their lives, they carry with them the lessons learned, friendships forged, and the enduring values instilled during their time at Liberty University. The commencement ceremony not only marked the end of a chapter but also heralded the beginning of new opportunities and challenges that await these graduates as they strive to make an impact for Christ in their respective fields and communities.
