The Ventura County Sheriff’s office has not made an arrest after the homicide death on July 5

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office issued an update regarding the homicide investigation into Paul Kessler’s death, a Jewish man seen peacefully waving an Israeli flag last Sunday, November 5. The suspect remains at large, without charges at the time of publishing. Eyewitnesses state they watched Loay Alnaji strike Paul Kessler in the head with a mega-phone, resulting in Kessler suffering injuries to the front of the head, falling backward, and striking his head on the pavement.

The medical examiner stated the cause of death as homicide. Suspect Loay Alnaji, 50, teaches at Moorpark College and has previously shared pro-Hamas content and prayers to “allah” on his social media accounts.

Growing frustration at the delay in an arrest is causing tensions to grow and the Ventura County Sheriff’s office to issue an updated statement. The Sheriff’s office states they are sorting through multiple witness testimony that is not all in agreement.

“This case involves eyewitnesses who were present at the scene; however, many witness statements conflict with one another,” said the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office in a statement.  Conflicting statements from multiple witnesses can make it difficult to prove a case beyond a reasonable doubt. Witnesses with conflicting statements impair witness credibility, create reasonable doubt, cause unreliable testimony, and strain a prosecutor’s ability to prove a case. We are in constant communication with our District Attorney’s Office regarding this case.”

UPDATE: we are hearing the Ventura County Sheriff intends to charge Loay Alnaji in Paul Kessler’s death with a hate crime enhancement.

Once an arrest is made, StopAntisemitism strongly encourages DA Nasarenko to prosecute Alnaji to the fullest extent of the law. https://t.co/77VaT40tpW

Tensions continue to mount between Palestinians and Jews worldwide as Israel fights back after the October 7 terror attacks on innocent civilians, women, elderly, and children in Israel. As Israel defends itself, droves of Palestinian supporters have shown up in major cities, at the White House, and Joe Biden’s Delaware home. A march in support of Israel is happening on Tuesday on the National Mall in Washington D.C.
