Paul Hyon Kim Faces Federal Charges After Firebombing and Shooting at Tesla Facility
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced the arrest of 36-year-old Paul Hyon Kim in connection with a targeted attack on a Tesla Collision Center earlier this month. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of March 18, involved arson, gunfire, and vandalism, marking it as one of several high-profile terrorist attacks on Tesla properties across the United States in recent weeks.
According to police reports, the attack took place around 2:45 a.m. at the Tesla facility on West Badura Avenue. Authorities received multiple 911 calls, including one reporting gunshots, prompting a swift response from officers and the Clark County Fire Department. Upon arrival, responders discovered several Tesla vehicles engulfed in flames, with the word “RESIST” spray-painted in red across the front doors of the building. Investigators later determined that the suspect had used Molotov cocktails to ignite two vehicles and fired at least three rounds into three others, damaging a total of five Teslas.
FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, in collaboration with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, launched an extensive investigation following the incident. Initial evidence included grainy surveillance footage of the suspect and his vehicle, described as a black Hyundai Elantra. Using additional surveillance from around the city, license plate readers, and analytical data, authorities identified and located Kim. Sheriff Kevin McMahill noted that specialized units placed Kim under 24/7 surveillance prior to his arrest to ensure public safety and preserve evidence.
Kim was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on 15 counts, including suspicion of arson, possession of a fire device, discharging a firearm into a vehicle, and destruction of personal property valued at $5,000 or more. On Thursday, March 27, a federal arrest warrant was issued, and Kim was transferred into federal custody, though specific federal charges have not yet been disclosed. During a press conference, FBI Special Agent Spencer Evans emphasized, “There is nothing courageous or noble about fire-bombing private property and terrorizing your local community.”
Likely Linked to Wave of Similar Attacks
The motive behind the attack remains under investigation, with authorities exploring whether it is linked to a wave of similar incidents targeting Tesla dealerships, vehicles, and charging stations nationwide. Since January, when Tesla CEO Elon Musk assumed a prominent role in the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the company has faced terror attacks and protests. Critics of Musk’s involvement in slashing federal jobs and budgets have organized protests and, in some cases, resorted to violence. Notable incidents include Molotov cocktail attacks in Colorado, Oregon, and South Carolina, as well as gunfire at a dealership in Oregon.
Attorney General Pam Bondi has classified the acts “domestic terrorism,” vowing severe consequences for perpetrators – up to 20 years behind bars. The Las Vegas case has drawn particular attention due to its combination of arson, gunfire, and political messaging, with Evans noting it bears “some of the hallmarks” of terrorism. However, law enforcement officials are still determining if there is conclusive evidence of coordination between the various attacks.
Tesla, the leading electric vehicle manufacturer, has not issued an official statement regarding the Las Vegas incident. Musk, however, has publicly condemned the violence, posting on X earlier this month, “This level of violence is insane and deeply wrong. Tesla just makes electric cars and has done nothing to deserve these evil attacks.”
As the investigation continues, Kim’s arrest marks a significant development in efforts to curb the rising tide of Tesla-related vandalism and violence. Authorities urge anyone with additional information to contact the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department or the FBI. The case underscores the growing desperate attempts of the far-left to regain power, resort to violence, and attack those who disagree with them.
