Prayers Requested for 89-Year-Old Evangelist as He Battles Serious Heart Complications
Evangelist and longtime Pentecostal pastor Jimmy Swaggart has been hospitalized and is in critical condition due to cardiac complications.
Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, shared the news on social media Monday, requesting urgent prayer for the 89-year-old televangelist and his family.
“I met him at Dr. Charles Stanley’s funeral in 2023,” Graham wrote. “I know that he and his family would appreciate your prayers as he is in critical condition.”
Swaggart, founder of the Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, rose to national prominence in the 1980s with his fiery preaching style, gospel music, and televised crusades that reached millions of viewers around the world. Despite personal and ministry controversies over the decades, Swaggart remained a towering figure in Pentecostal and charismatic Christian circles, continuing to preach and broadcast well into his later years.
Many in the faith community have expressed their concern and are calling on believers across denominations to lift Swaggart up in prayer during this critical time.
