Honoring the Alliance

Netanyahu began by thanking key American political leaders, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Minority Leaders Hakeem Jeffries and Mitch McConnell. He expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to address “this great Citadel of democracy,” highlighting the historic and enduring bond between the two nations

A Crossroads of History

“We meet today at a Crossroads of History,” Netanyahu proclaimed, pointing to the current upheavals in the Middle East. He described the ongoing conflict as a battle “between barbarism and civilization,” with Iran’s axis of terror challenging both America and Israel. Netanyahu emphasized the critical need for the two nations to stand together, asserting, “When we stand together, we win; they lose.”

October 7: A Day of Infamy

Netanyahu drew a poignant parallel between October 7, 2023, and historical tragedies such as Pearl Harbor and 9/11. He recounted the harrowing events of that day when Hamas terrorists launched a brutal attack on Israel, killing 1,200 people, including 39 Americans. He vividly described the atrocities committed, including the murder of children and the abduction of 255 people into Gaza. Netanyahu assured the audience of Israel’s commitment to securing the release of all hostages, praising the courage of those involved in rescue operations.

Heroes Among Us

The Prime Minister honored several Israeli soldiers and civilians for their extraordinary bravery during the conflict. Among them was Lieutenant AI Ruen, an Ethiopian immigrant who ran eight miles to the front lines to defend his country, and Master Sergeant Asiri, a Muslim soldier who protected both military and civilian communities. Netanyahu also paid tribute to Lieutenant Assa Suur, who lost his right arm and vision in his left eye while saving fellow soldiers from a grenade. Despite his injuries, Suur plans to return to active duty.

Addressing the rise of anti-Semitism and anti-Israel sentiments, Netanyahu criticized those who support Hamas, labeling them as standing with “rapists and murderers.”

The Indomitable spirit of Israel

Netanyahu highlighted the unity and resilience of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), drawing inspiration from historical Jewish warriors. He emphasized that the IDF is composed of soldiers from every corner of Israeli society, bound by a common spirit. He particularly honored Y Lier, a Holocaust survivor’s son, whose own son, Moshe, was killed in combat. “The sacrifice of your loved ones will not be in vain,” Netanyahu promised, reaffirming Israel’s commitment to ensuring that “never again” is a sacred vow.

Defeating Evil with Clarity

Addressing the rise of anti-Semitism and anti-Israel sentiments, Netanyahu criticized those who support Hamas, labeling them as standing with “rapists and murderers.” He condemned the actions of Iran in promoting anti-Israel protests and stressed the importance of distinguishing between terrorists and those who target civilians. Netanyahu also refuted accusations by the International Criminal Court (ICC), defending Israel’s efforts to protect Palestinian civilians while exposing Hamas’s strategy of using human shields.

A United Front Against Iran

Netanyahu concluded by reiterating the importance of the U.S.-Israel alliance in confronting Iran’s terrorist activities. He warned that Iran’s ultimate target is America, the guardian of Western civilization. “The hands of the Jewish state will never be shackled,” Netanyahu vowed. “Israel will always defend itself.”

The speech was met with resounding applause from Republicans, silence from many Democrats including VP Kamala Harris who refused to attend the important address.

Reflecting the strong support for Israel among the majority of American lawmakers. Netanyahu’s address underscored the enduring friendship between the United States and Israel and the shared commitment to defeating terrorism and upholding the values of democracy and civilization.
