NYC church planter and author passes to eternity
Esteemed pastor, author, theologian, and speaker Rev. Dr. Timothy Keller, surrounded by family, passed away this morning at 72 years of age. The founder of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan has battled pancreatic cancer since being diagnosed in May 2020.
Steve Shackleford, CEO of Redeemer City to City, a ministry founded by Keller, shared in an email update, “We are forever grateful for his leadership, heart, and dedication to sharing the love of Christ with others. While we will miss his presence here, we know he is rejoicing with his Savior in heaven.”
Keller, a gifted communicator who made the truths of the Bible come alive for seekers and modern skeptics alike, is being remembered for his many contributions to the church at large.
Greg Laurie, Pastor at Harvest Church, wrote on Twitter, “Very sad to hear of the passing of @timkellernyc today. He is now with the Lord. Cathe and I had the privilege of hearing him speak at his home Church in NYC a number of times and met him briefly as well. Tim Keller was a very gifted communicator of God’s word. He made the teaching of Scripture understandable and was a real gift to the Church. He will be missed. Let’s be praying for his wife Kathy, and members of his family as they deal with this tremendous loss.”
“There will never be another Tim Keller, and I will miss him,” continued Shackleford.
A worship service followed by a memorial will be held in New York City in the coming weeks, and both will be available by live stream for those who would prefer to participate remotely. More information will be provided on www.timothykeller.com as details become available.
“We ask for your continued prayers for the Keller family and all of us here at Redeemer City to City.”
Keller authored over 30 books, including Prodigal God, The Reason for God, and The Meaning of Marriage, among many other top sellers.
