TIME Magazine honors pastor, preacher, women’s faith leader
Every year, TIME, the politically liberal-leaning magazine honors 100 next gen leaders in their 100 Next List. These people are “rethinking” long-accepted ideas and according to the magazine are, “creating new possibilities for millions of people.” Whether you agree or disagree with the impetus, the positive part is the magazine honored an overtly Christian pastor and women’s leader who is making change for the better through her faith in Jesus.
Sarah Jakes Roberts daughter of Bishop T.D. Jakes is one of the 100. The co-pastor of ONE (Church) along with her husband Pastor Touré (PT) Roberts, run the satellite campuses of The Potter’s House church campuses in Denver and LA. The duo has also written numerous books, businesses, and ministries equipping the next generation of believers.
Categories of the 100 Next include ARTISTS, PHENOMS, INNOVATORS, LEADERS, ADVOCATES. Jakes Roberts was named in the LEADER category. Hailie Bieber was named in the PHENOM category. Victor J. Glover, Jr., the NASA astronaut and outspoken Christian was also named to the list.
To make the honor that much sweeter, the article in TIME on Jakes Roberts was written by none other than writer, producer, and philanthropist, Tyler Perry.
“When your father is T.D. Jakes and you follow his footsteps into the world of ministry, there’s a lot of pressure to find your own voice. I’ve known Sarah Jakes Roberts since she was a child, and just as much as she’s her father’s daughter, she’s always stood out as totally and uniquely her own. She found her voice early,” wrote Perry.
Jakes Roberts was clearly touched by the gesture, taking to social media to thank God for a new layer of healing of her own heart. Jakes Roberts mentioned her own struggles, working through a teen pregnancy at just 13, experiencing the grace of God, and overcoming.
Sarah wrote on Instagram, “This is a full circle moment down to the surprise inclusion of @tylerperry writing the piece about me. It came out yesterday. Of all the dates for it to come out, God, in His infinite wisdom, allowed it to take place on such a monumental weekend.
