New evidence shows Hunter Biden connected Chinese business partners with his father on official trip
In a December 2013 email, Hunter Biden confirmed arranging a meeting between his Chinese associates and his father at a Beijing hotel, shortly after the vice president had met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. “They got to meet Dad. All very good. Talk later,” Hunter Biden wrote, indicating the meeting took place as planned.
3.3 million pages of email
The documents, part of a larger cache of 3.3 million pages of emails, bank records, and corporate memos, were collected by federal agents during a 2015-2016 criminal investigation into a fraudulent bond scheme involving a Native-American tribe. While Hunter Biden was not charged in that case, the investigation provided agents with extensive access to his financial and corporate records.
The evidence, recently obtained by the House Oversight Committee as part of an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, sheds light on Hunter Biden’s efforts to leverage his family’s name for business deals. This evidence aligns with testimony from Hunter Biden’s former business associates, Devon Archer and Jason Galanis, and contradicts Joe Biden’s repeated denials of involvement in his son’s business activities.
Influence-peddling by the Biden family
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer stated that this evidence is indicative of a pattern of influence-peddling by the Biden family. “This is another example of the same formula demonstrated through our Committee’s investigation: Hunter Biden sets up meetings with foreign businessmen, Joe Biden meets them at Hunter’s direction, and the Biden family receives substantial payments in return,” Comer said.
Despite Joe Biden’s denials, Hunter Biden admitted during a February deposition to the House Oversight Committee that his father did meet with his Chinese business partners. Hunter Biden’s emails also described the close relationship between Joe Biden and President Xi Jinping, further highlighting the connections between the vice president’s official duties and his son’s business dealings.
The new evidence suggests that federal law enforcement agencies were aware as early as 2016 that Hunter Biden was arranging meetings between his father and foreign business partners, contradicting public denials by Joe Biden.
