After devastating EF4 tornado struck Greenfield, Leading Christian organizations responding
In the aftermath of a devastating EF4 tornado that struck Greenfield, Iowa, Christian organizations have swiftly mobilized to provide relief and support to the affected community. The tornado, which obliterated much of the small town, left more than 150 homes destroyed or severely damaged, resulting in five fatalities and numerous injuries.
Teams of relief workers are on the ground now
Franklin Graham announced that Samaritan’s Purse teams are on the ground in Greenfield, aiding families in the difficult process of recovery. “Our Samaritan’s Purse teams are on the ground in Greenfield, Iowa, beginning to help families pick up the pieces after an EF4 tornado wiped out much of this small town,” Graham said. He urged the community to join in praying for those affected, particularly the families who have lost loved ones. In addition, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s Rapid Response Team chaplains are providing spiritual support to the community.
Samaritan’s Purse is focusing on immediate relief efforts, including debris removal and assisting homeowners with critical needs. Volunteers are encouraged to join the effort to help in Jesus’ name.
Spreading the love of Jesus to survivors
Crisis Response International (CRI) is also actively involved in the relief efforts. CRI Founder Sean Malone shared that their responders are currently assessing the damage in partnership with Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield. CRI Responder Team Lead, Karla Sue Byg, detailed the organization’s activities, which include debris removal, yard restoration, and offering prayers and emotional support to the affected families.
“Our focus is on spreading the love of Jesus to survivors in Greenfield,” Byg said. “Today, we assisted with debris removal, yard restoration, and prayed with numerous families affected by this devastating tornado.”

Both organizations are calling for an army of volunteers to support the ongoing relief efforts and help the Greenfield community rebuild. As these Christian organizations lead the response, their combined efforts aim to bring hope and healing to those impacted by the disaster.
