At least one Christian University is holding the line on its convictions. Houghton University in upstate NY fired two employees from the Christian university at least partially for the repeated use of pronouns in their email signatures, which is against university policy.
Pronouns, including he/him, she/her, have become a code for acceptance of LGBTQ+ lifestyle, gender confusion, and woke ideology. Not happening at Houghton. Actually, nothing other than university branding can be in any email signature, and that includes pronouns. The letter dismissing one of the students was posted on Facebook. The letter stated that the staffer refused to remove the pronouns from her email signature, violating institutional policy. In addition to the pronouns, the staffer was also let go for derogatory comments about the University to a local paper.
Houghton University is located in Caneadea, New York, southeast of Buffalo and maintains its commitment to offering a Christian education it promises students. That includes adherence to email signature policies and a stance against woke ideology.
“While the details of individual personnel matters are confidential, Houghton University has never terminated an employment relationship based solely on the use of pronouns in staff email signatures,” a university spokesperson said in a statement to ABC News. “Over the past years, we’ve required anything extraneous be removed from email signatures, including Scripture quotes. Houghton remains steadfastly committed to offering the Christian education that our students are promised.”
