Alabama library reverses course, national movement of godly, American values impacting 350 libraries

An Alabama library announced Wednesday that the free event Saturday, August 5, with actor Kirk Cameron and former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines was canceled. The library cited larger-than-capacity crowds and safety concerns. What they weren’t expecting was a quick response from Cameron’s attorney, and thankfully they quickly changed course.

The Saturday events were planned as part of a “See You at the Library” movement of library reading events organized by Brave Books and simultaneously happening at 350 libraries around the United States.  The idea? Teach children godly values, virtue, patriotism, and faith – the kind that attracts hundreds of parents and kids to each event.

Cancelled by Huntsville-Madison County Public Library

When the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library System in Alabama canceled the event, they were soon met with a letter from Cameron and Brave Books lawyer, First Liberty Institute.  They wrote to the library, challenging the decision, threatening legal action around discrimination and First Amendment rights afforded by the U.S. Constitution if they were to move forward with the event cancellation.

“We write to inform you that, should you persist in the cancellation of this event, you will have engaged in unlawful and unconstitutional religious viewpoint and content discrimination in violation of the Alabama Constitution and the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution,” the letter stated.

The library complied, and the event happened as planned at the Madison Library and hundreds of others.

Reversing course

“I’m happy to announce that Madison Public Library has reversed course and are now rightfully inviting us to come host the story hour for the community in Huntsville,” said Brave Books CEO Trent Talbot to Fox Digital. “We must stand our ground and fight for our public institutions, the foe we fail to meet at the gate in our own generation is the foe we let into the city for the next.”

Gaines and Cameron called into Fox & Friends Saturday to share an update live from Henderson, TN.

“They’re coming out by the hundreds and the thousands,” shared Cameron with crowds behind him. “We’re singing, we’re praying and we’re reading together. We’re getting back to these values that will lead to America’s blessing and protection,” Cameron shared.

When asked why the movement is catching on so quickly, Gaines shared that American people have had enough of the liberal woke mob. “It’s because we’ve reached this point of utter lunacy, where we’re denying truth, biblical truth, as well as objective truth. Common sense Americans are rolling up their sleeves and saying enough is enough.”

She went on to say it’s not the White House making decisions for the American family after all.

“It’s not the White House that makes the rules; it’s our house. It’s your house that makes the rules.”

In conclusion, Cameron said it was Samuel Adams who said it best. “I think Samuel Adams, one of our founding father’s said it best, “It does not take a majority to prevail … but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.”
