After stating the war was far from over, Zelenskyy now signals Ukraine’s readiness to negotiate peace under Trump’s leadership, emphasizing urgency for a lasting resolution
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced via social media Ukraine’s willingness to enter peace negotiations under the leadership of U.S. President Donald Trump, marking a dramatic shift just a day after declaring the war was far from over.
“I would like to reiterate Ukraine’s commitment to peace. None of us wants an endless war,” Zelenskyy stated. “My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts.”
He outlined key initial steps for negotiations, including an immediate truce in air and sea warfare and the release of prisoners, provided Russia reciprocates. He emphasized Ukraine’s gratitude for U.S. support, particularly Trump’s past provision of Javelin missiles, and signaled readiness to finalize agreements on minerals and security.
Zelenskyy also acknowledged recent tensions during his Washington visit, stating, “It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right.”
This development sets the stage for a potential diplomatic breakthrough, with Ukraine signaling urgency in reaching a lasting peace.
